ALLAN LLOYD YOUNG On Thursday, March 15, 2007, with his family at his side, Allan ended his courageous 39 year battle with multiple sclerosis. Allan passed away at Deer Lodge Centre where he had resided for the past 18 years. Left to cherish his memory are his loyal wife of almost 40 years, Rosemarie; daughters, Angela (Darryl) Smith; Andrea (Robert) Robichaud; grandsons, Tyson and Alexander Smith; mother Elizabeth Young of NS; sisters, Bev (Jack) Squires of NL, Shirley (Earl) Fraser of NS; brother Don (Shirley) of ON; mother-in-law Rose Pakulak of Winnipeg Beach; numerous relatives and friends. Also very special friend Donna George. Allan was predeceased by his father Malcolm. Allan was born January 28, 1944 in Regina, SK to a military family. He travelled extensively through Canada and Europe before becoming an air traffic controller in the Air Force. It was while stationed in Gimli he met and married the love of his life, Rosemarie. Soon after, Allan was diagnosed with MS and medically discharged from the Air Force. Allan and Rosemarie moved to Winnipeg and raised their family. After trying many positions, society dictated that Allan should stay home and take over as Mr. Mom. He was also very active in the community. Allan sat on the board of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada for a number of years. He travelled throughout the province and Canada and appeared on TV a number of times with this position. Before his MS progressed, he enjoyed doing handicrafts. He loved his workshop! He would be lost down there for hours doing woodwork, leatherwork, making stuffed animals, wood burning etc. We are all very grateful to have some beautiful pieces he made for us. We will cherish these always. Allan was blessed with 'the gift of the gab'. His quick, witty humour and endless wisdom made him lovable to all who met him. This was apparent to the day of his death. He faced his illness with great courage and strength never feeling sorry for himself or allowing anyone else to. He lived for today because as he put it, yesterday is over and tomorrow may never come . He was an inspiration to all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for 18 years of wonderful care. Especially the staff on 6E for the past few weeks. The care he received was second to none. We would also like to thank Donna George. Donna, you filled in for us when we couldn't be there. Saying 'thank you' doesn't seem like enough. We will forever be grateful to you for enriching Allan's life. A celebration of Allan's life will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation may be made in Allan's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, 4th flr - 141 Bannatyne Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B OR3. One of the greatest gifts We ever had Came from God; We called him Dad. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home And Reception Centre 885-9715
