NELLIE GRODZIK (nee HAPPYCHUK) Peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2007 at the River East Personal Care Home, Nellie passed away at the age of 86. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Vicky Low, son Bob (Nancy), grandchildren, Ian, Sandi (Rob), Gillian and Kelly and great-granddaughter Madison. Nellie grew up in the Vita area. In 1943 she married Michael and together they lived on a small farm in the Springfield area until 1968 when they took up residence in Transcona. For the last seven years Nellie was a resident of the River East Personal Care Home. Nellie was predeceased by her loving husband Michael in March 2000. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Joseph, Michael, Ben, Anne and Olga. Nellie will be remembered as a person whose family and friends were very important to her. She was the rock of the family. The cupboards were always full of good Ukrainian food, cooked and harvested from their garden. Ukrainian Christmas was the highlight of the year, and she wouldn't hesitate in creating these feasts, not once, but twice!! Her hospitality was regularly extended to include neighbours and friends. From school time lunches and after school babysitting, Nana had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, and always loved spending time with them. She loved to cook, dance, knit, sew, swim and was often seen walking the streets of Transcona alongside her husbands' bike riding. Nellie was a very active member of the Women's League at the All-Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Later in life, Nellie and Mike enjoyed much travelling before Alzheimer's took her away from the life she loved, and away from us much too early. The family appreciates the love and care extended to Mom by the staff of the River East Personal Care Home. You are all truly angels and your kindness will always be remembered. Prayer services will be held on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel on Hwy. #1 at Navin Road. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m., at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1500 Day St., Fr. Bill Wasyliw officiating. Interment to follow at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3G 4G2 or the All-Saints Church. May God keep you in His Arms for all eternity. We love you and will think of you always. Rest in Peace, Mother. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy. #1 E. at Navin, (204) 222-3241
