ISOBEL SARAH MINERVA MONKMAN (FEATHER WOMAN) December 10, 1946 - March 17, 2007 With her family and friends at her side, our wonderful Isobel passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17, 2007. Isobel will be sadly missed by her daughter Olga Mary Kay (Katie); siblings, Dawn, Bernice (Ben), Charlie (Connie) and Larry; adopted sisters, Josie Hill and Lainie Neal. She also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great-niece. Isobel was predeceased by both parents Orton and Olga Monkman; and older siblings, Orton and Doreen. Isobel started out early in life as a camp cook - working her way across many provinces, including the North West Territories and at numerous oil rigs in Northern Alberta, where she is still remembered for her wonderful meals and memorable personality. Later, Isobel worked at the N.W.T.C. between 1988 and 2000. Upon her return from Edmonton she worked as a Practical Skills instructor and House Manager at the Memengwaa Place, eventually moving to become the beloved house mom/manager at Blake Street (Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre). In her work and personal life, Isobel devoted herself to taking care of others. Whether volunteering with local organizations, cooking remarkable feasts for hundreds, sharing her friendship and unforgettable laughter with friends and family, or raising her daughter Katie - her pride and joy, Isobel's kind and giving spirit was felt by all. When it came to Katie, Isobel's love knew no bounds - she would confide to those closest to her soon after her birth that she would never be lonely again. Over the years, her devotion and commitment to her only child would see Katie blossom into a strong, beautiful and independent young woman. Their special bond as mother and daughter, friend and confidant are enduring and without comparison - carrying them together through life's many joys and challenges yesterday, today and tomorrow. To her friends and family, Isobel will always be remembered for her delightful personality, her unique descriptive terms for people, places and things, and gift of humour. Her genuine warmth, kind acts and caring ways towards all, along with her endearing laughter and exuberant nature won her the affection of many - especially during her fun times at BINGO with her casino buddies, at card games, at the cottage at Sandy Hook, or at her much loved Silly B nights. Isobel will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by everyone who knew her. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff for all the loving care they gave to Isobel and those gathered during her time at Concordia Hospital 3rd Floor West. Isobel's memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Circle of Life Thunderbird House, 715 Main Street. Interment will follow on March 23, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
