Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL TATARYN September 19, 1917 - March 18, 2007 It is with profound sadness the family announces the loss of our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Michael Tataryn, at the age of 89 on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the Seven Oaks Hospital. Father was predeceased one year ago by the love of his life, wife Catherine, with whom he will now dance again forever, also by brother Walter, and sister Nellie. Left to cherish his memory are sons, Stewart (Donna), and Raymond; daughters, Marie (Brian) and Nancy (Robert). He was Papa to 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are brothers, Joseph, Edward and Bernard and their families, as well as numerous friends and comrades. Mike was born in St. Boniface and lived with his family in North Selkirk where he attended school. He worked many different jobs, from farming with his father to lumberjacking to hauling fish across frozen Lake Winnipeg in the dead of winter by horse and sleigh. He learned to work hard and enjoyed the fruits of his labour. Mike served his country while a member of the Royal Canadian Infantry during the Second World War as an Artillery Instructor, while in England and as a participant in the liberation of Holland. He was very proud of having served in the Armed Forces and of his Legion Membership, Branch #42, where he served as a Past President and on many projects over the years. He had married Catherine in 1943 just prior to his leaving for Europe and upon his return they started a family, occupying many different homes in town. None brought his more pride and joy than the house which he had built himself. Mike enjoyed a long career at the Rolling Mills from which he retired in 1979. He and Cath enjoyed travelling, gardening and spending time with family and friends during their retirement. He loved his wood-working and made many gifts to be shared with family members at Christmas and Birthdays. They were active members of Christ Church in Selkirk and were very proud to assist in their own way towards the construction of the new church. Mike was brokenhearted when Cath left him last year to be with the Lord. Being a very spiritual man, he always believed he would rejoin her one day and now that day has come. Many heartfelt thanks go out to all the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for making Dad's final days as comfortable as possible; also, thanks to staff and residents at Woodlands Court. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 at Christ Church, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk, with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. Interment to follow at the St. Clements Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Christ Church Building Fund, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk, MB R1A 0T7. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements, (204) 482-3271.
