CLAIRE AHRONSON (CLARA JODIS LOVISA ISFELD) Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, March 19, 2007 at Mirimichi Lodge. Predeceased by her husband A.G. Bert Ahronson (1976). Survived by her sons Ken (JoAnne) and Wayne (Debbie); and six grandsons, Kristjan, Arni (Carrie), Geoffrey (Kristin), David, Robbie and Michael; and two great-granddaughters, Abigail and Ava. A proud Canadian of Icelandic Heritage, Claire was an early settler in Deep River joining her husband with their month old child on February 26, 1946 shortly after the gates had been removed from Deep River Road. Claire and Bert were the first residents at 14 Huron St. Claire like most of the women in that new town was the ultimate volunteer. Her vinertarta (an Icelandic dessert) was always requested at Church bake sales. She knitted hundreds of wool hats and booties for newborns when the Deep River Hospital had a maternity ward. She worked for years at the Whistle Stop and at the Tuck Shop at the hospital. She drove people to appointments for Long Term Care. She was especially proud of her service to young girls with the Girl Guides and CGIT. She enumerated and collected for numerous charities. Claire was a member of the longest running poker club in the town of Deep River. She liked to say she played at bridge until her eyesight failed her. Claire had the most seniority at the Deep River Curling Club until a broken hip several years ago put an end to her participation in that sport. Claire Ahronson was predeceased by all six of her brothers and sisters from her father Andres Isfeld's first family. She was devoted to her two sons and her grandchildren and great- grandchildren and will be sorely missed. At Claire's request there will be no visitation and she will be interred in the Spring in a private graveside ceremony. Donations may be made to the Deep River Community Church, Deep River, ON or to the Mirimichi Lodge Foundation, Pembroke, ON.
