ANNA K. STORGAARD Renowned researcher, esteemed teacher, beloved sister, patron of the arts, generous friend, woman of faith, nurturer, and neighbour died on Sunday, March 11, 2007, following a brief illness. We will miss her! Anna was born in Ochre River, Manitoba, on May 28, 1929, the youngest child of Danish immigrant parents Vilhelm and Camilla Storgaard. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Erl(ing), Knud(Harry); and her precious dog Willie Two. She leaves her sister Inga; and several members of her extended family. Anna's career was agronomy, as a specialist in forage crops. Her avocation was the nurture, support and encouragement of anyone who came into her life. Following formal education at the University of Manitoba (BSA, MSc) and Pennsylvania State University (PhD), Anna returned to the U of M to teach in the Plant Sciences department (and on the side, to conduct research, advise farmers, offer counsel to students and faculty, and lend her skills to administrative tasks). Modest by nature, Anna would protest and be embarrassed if we listed too many of her qualities and accomplishments. Suffice to say she was a well-deserved recipient of the 1971 Olive B. Stanton Award as Teacher of the Year at the U of M, of the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977, of the Canadian Society of Agronomy Teaching Award in 1984, of being chosen for the Citizen Ambassador Program three times, including trips to Russia, to Australia/New Zealand, and to South America. She was also the well-deserved recipient of the affection, regard and loyalty of her friends, neighbours and family. With love and amazement we will celebrate her life and mourn her death at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Avenue, Winnipeg, on Friday, March 23, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. Generous in all ways, her capacity to appreciate the potential in others, to nurture all things that grow (plant, human and animal), to embrace life with humour and curiosity through good times and bad, served Anna immensely well in life, and will be her legacy to us in death. The world is a better and more beautiful place for Anna having inhabited it, and we are grateful. Donations in Anna's memory may be directed to Harrow United Church, the University of Manitoba or to a charity of one's choice. Anna was an enthusiastic patron of many causes. Arrangements in care of: Neil Bardal Inc. 984 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Phone 949-2200.
