Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTELLA MAY HAMMERSTEDT (nee HALLIDAY) 1911 - 2007 Peacefully on Friday, March 16, 2007, with family be her side, Stella passed away at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home at the age of 95 years. Stella was born at Lac du Bonnet on May 9, 1911, to Frances and William Halliday, some of the earliest settlers in the area. Having been a lifelong resident of Lac du Bonnet, Stella was a source of much historical information regarding the area. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Stella always maintained a keen interest in the activities and accomplishments of her family members and was a special aunt to her extended family. She always kept a record of birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates regarding family members. Stella was predeceased by her husband William; sisters, Kay Creaney, Margaret Cherrey, Stancil Cupit; and her brothers, Jack and Earl Halliday. Stella had been a member of St. Johns Anglican Church Women, Lac du Bonnet Pioneer Club, Lac du Bonnet Health Auxiliary, Historical Society, Rebeccas, Eastern Star and other local organizations. Stella began work at an early age as a clerk at the Pioneer General Store in Lac du Bonnet. Later she and her husband Bill owned and operated The New Pioneer Store until their retirement. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving, compassionate care that she received from the staff at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home while a resident. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns Anglican Church, Lac du Bonnet, MB, with Rev. John Giroux officiating. Service will terminate at the church with a burial service at the Lac du Bonnet Cemetery at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined.
