Remaining to forever cherish Maria's memory are her daughter Nancy Jenner; son Clifford (Lynn); daughter Grace Gregoire (Ray); grandchildren, Colleen Evans (Drew), Heather Pickmere (Mark), Maureen Jenner, Lance Saunders (Jill), Blair Saunders (Jocelyn), D'Arcy Frost (Sean), Kent Saunders and Micheline and Christian Gregoire; great-grandchildren, Meghan, Britney, David and Shelby Evans; Jenna, Holly, Alistair, Libby and Eilish Pickmere; Dillon, Paul, Kyle, Brooke and Brett Saunders; and Cheyanne Levesque; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Maria was predeceased by her husband Stephen; father John Ewanko, mother Anastasia; brother Steven Walker; and sister Pauline Luchit; son-in-law Jack Jenner; and great-granddaughter Lindsey Evans. Maria lived in the north end of Winnipeg for most of her 92 years. At age 19 she married the late Stephen Saunders, her husband of 51 years. Together they had three children, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker who loved to garden, play cards, and enjoyed going to Assiniboia Downs and to the McPhillips Street Station. Maria knitted and crocheted beautifully. Her love of life, fun and games kept her young. She recovered remarkably well from a stroke three years ago, became a resident at Misericordia Centre and, of late, at Misericordia Place. In her honour, a memorial service will take place on Friday, March 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Misericordia Place, (chapel on the first floor), 44 Furby Street (Parking is available in the parkade). Maria's family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Misericordia Centre and Misericordia Place for the all the care given to their mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maria's memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6-200 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
