OLIVE MARY HALEY
Born: Jul 14, 1942
Date of Passing: Mar 18, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE MARY HALEY Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Olive Haley, on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at her home at the age of 64 years. Remaining to forever cherish Olive's memory are her brother Doug and his partner Jerry in Florida; son Dennis Ceicko (Marlene); daughter Denise Barker (Bill), and her partner Norm Settee. Olive had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, Nicholas, Natasha, Ainslie, Seth; grandnieces, Amy-Lyn and Kaela-Ann; friend Thad Allary, and the Brock stepchildren. She was predeceased by her father Reginald Haley, a Hong Kong P.O.W. who died in Japan; mother Genora, who was taken by cancer in 1953; brother Reggie, and two sisters, Corona and Murtice. Olive was descended from the Irish who came to Canada in the potato famine of the 1840s. Born July 14, 1942 in Matapedia, PQ, Olive left her family and friends in the East and came to Winnipeg in 1957. She worked as a domestic, school bus driver, cook and cafeteria manager while she raised her two children, Dennis and Denise, and several Brock stepchildren. Olive was proud of her time as a school bus driver and as a cook at the C.P.R. training school on Selkirk Avenue. She loved the countryside and animals. For a while she lived on a farm in the Amaranth-Langruth area where she kept two riding horses and raised cattle, sheep and goats. During that time she ran a snack shop in Amaranth that became well known for its pizzas and bannock burgers. Olive made many fine friends in the country including Harold and Marg Rhodes, and Mildred and Wally Armstrong. Orphaned at an early age Olive worked hard all her life and gave unstintingly of herself for family, friends, stepchildren and grandchildren. She loved to reminisce about her family, childhood and work experiences and with the gift of the Irish to evoke emotion, could make her listeners feel the pain, emotion and humour of her experiences. She fought a lifelong battle with inherent cancer and amazed everyone, doctors included, with her ability to bounce back and carry on. Olive's funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue (corner of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue). For those who wish, parking will be available in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church parking lot located on Ness Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Olive's memory to the charity of one's choice. Olive's arrangements have been entrusted to Manitoba's largest Original Family Owned Funeral Service Provider: WOJCIK'S ALL BELIEFS FAITHS FUNERAL CHAPEL CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
