EDITH KATHLEEN KERR (nee OLIVER) July 22, 1945 - March 20, 2007 Peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, the family is sad to announce the passing of Edith Kerr, aged 61, at the Riverview Medical Center on March 20, 2007. Edith was born in Selkirk, MB where she grew up having two older brothers, John and Robert (Bud) who still reside in Selkirk with their wives, Wendy and Doreen. She is predeceased by her father Steve and mother Kay Oliver. Steve was a former mayor of Selkirk with Bud following in his father's footsteps many years later. Edith met her husband Don while working for James Richardson and Sons, Limited and they were married on November 27th, 1971. Shortly thereafter they settled in Selkirk and spent 12 very happy years raising their two children, Chris and Kathy before a transfer took the family to Ontario for the next 10 years. Edith and Don moved back to Winnipeg in 1994 as empty nesters with the children staying in the East to pursue other interests. Chris eventually relocated to Winnipeg in 2001 where he now lives with his partner Tracy Slobik while Kathy travelled extensively to many parts of the world. Kathy returned home to Winnipeg after three years in Korea to be with her mother when Edith was first diagnosed with cancer last summer. On the Kerr side of the immediate family Edith is survived by Don's father Roy Kerr residing at Lions Place, Don's brother Barry Kerr and wife Barb both of Winnipeg, and predeceased by Don's mother Willhemena who passed away in 1994. Vast distances over the years did not weaken the close and loving relationship Edith had with her family and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Other members of the family cherishing her memory are nephew Matthew Oliver wife Beverley and daughter McKenzie son of John, nieces, Carol Taylor husband Perry son Evan and daughter Alyssa and Joceyln Oliver both daughters, of Bud and Doreen and Kelly Kerr daughter of Barry. There were also many extended family members with whom Edith valued her relationship and a wealth of friends many of whom stayed by her side providing love and support throughout her life and to those people Don, Chris, Kathy and Tracy would like to extend their sincerest appreciation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with The Ven. Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Edith was always prepared to help those in need through donations and basically could not say no to anyone who asked her to support any worthy cause. She had a great love of animals, in particular cats, so we would ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society in Edith's memory. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
