(WILF) JOHN COOK Wilf John Cook passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Irene (nee Hoy) Cook; dear father to son Clark Cook, daughter Coleene (Bruce) Major; loving grandfather of Kaleb Major; survived by his sister Marjorie Cook; brother-in-law Bill (Donna) Hoy; and his sister-in-law Rita Hoy. You have been a son, a brother, a friend, a husband, a father, an uncle, a father-in-law, a grandfather, and so much more throughout your long a wonderful life. Your spirit touched, intertwined, influenced and helped to shape the lives of those who were fortunate to know you. You dispensed wisdom not only in what you said but in what you did, how you lived your life and the example you set for others. You expected the best from those around you but were more than willing to give your best in return. Rest easy knowing that you did very well with the time and tasks you were given. You have lived in many places, amongst many peoples and you let those experiences affect you positively. You never lost your hunger for seeing what lay ahead of you, around the corner or over the next hill. Be gladdened that your journey has not ended but rather new and glorious roads have been opened up to you and the chance to prepare the way for those of us who will, in time, follow in your footsteps once more. You enjoyed the opportunity to laugh, to relax, to share a moment with those you loved and with those who loved you. Enjoy now your chance to renew old friendships, to reacquaint yourself with loved ones thought lost, and to rest once more in the arms of family members gone before. We are saddened that we cannot share this with you yet but are happy that, for you, the reward is now. You have been trapped in a prison of pain, of confusion, of torment, a prison made all the worse for the fact that, being your own body, there was no reprieve. You could feel yourself changing, slowly losing yourself to a thing with no name, a thing which took what you were and left a pale imitation of you in your place. Yet, in the end, fighter that you are, you broke free. You denied the nameless enemy and, in doing so, made it meaningless in its failure to conquer your spirit. And when it began to strike out against those you loved you made your stand and declared, No more! You broke its hold, ripped asunder the walls it had erected and won freedom. Be at peace knowing that you have won the battle and that those of us left behind realize that, at the end, the enemy was not able to prevail. Rest easy, be gladdened, and enjoy the reward and the peace you have won for yourself. You are loved, you are missed, and you will not be forgotten. The memories, good and bad, will sustain us until we can once again rejoin you on your journey. Farewell. As per his wishes, Wilf will be cremated with a private family interment to follow later this year in Dauphin, MB. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to: Grace Cancer Care, Attn: Dr. Pat Harris, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7, or Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7, or memorial funds in the name of: Kaleb Major Trust or Clark Cook Trust, in care of Steinbach Credit Union, 2100 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3Y 1X2. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
