LILA MURIEL KENNEDY (nee BURGE) On Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the Maples Personal Care Home, with family at her side, our dearly beloved mother, grandma and great-grandma, Lila Kennedy, passed away peacefully at the age of 99. Lila will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Don (Bernice) and Jim; daughter Roberta Holmes; grandchildren, Jennifer Holmes, Craig Holmes (Jill), and Kathy Foskett (Bryan), all of Winnipeg, Glenn Kennedy (Trish), of Cayman Islands, Carolyn Kennedy (John), of Preston, England; her two little great-granddaughters, Madeleine Gallagher and Elizabeth Holmes; as well as many nieces and nephews across Canada and in the US. Lila was predeceased by her husband Roy, in 1979, and her son-in-law Grant Holmes in 2001. Lila was born in Virden, MB, on March 14, 1908, the youngest of seven children. After high school, Lila attended Normal School and embarked on a teaching career that would span the next five decades. Her first position was in McMunn, and she later taught in Renwer and Sifton. It was while she was teaching in Sifton that she met Roy Kennedy, and in 1935 they were married. In 1940 they moved to Sherridon, MB, and then to Lynn Lake in 1952. Lila continued teaching there until 1963, at which time Roy and Lila moved to Winnipeg and Lila took a teaching position with the Seven Oaks School Division, first at Governor Semple School and then at Templeton School, from which she retired as teaching principal in 1973. Following retirement, Lila busied herself with new interests. She took courses in furniture refinishing, sewing, flower arranging, and cake decorating. She practiced what she learned by baking and decorating fabulous and unique birthday cakes for each of her five young grandchildren on their birthdays. Lila took great pride and delight in her grand-children, teaching them, guiding them, inspiring them, and celebrating their successes as they grew into adulthood. They each held a very special place in her heart, as they do for her. Lila was deeply loved, admired, and respected. She touched the lives of many people over the years and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for the kind, loving, and compassionate care that our mom received while residing there. Flowers gratefully declined. Those who wish to honour Lila's memory may make a donation in her name to a charity of one's choice. A memorial service celebrating Lila's life will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111
