CARL DEJONCKHEERE 1930 - 2007 Peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, Carl Dejonckheere passed away at his residence with his family by his side at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Lorraine; daughters, Carolyn and Alison; grandchildren, Alex, Arianna, Janelle and Riley; his sister Mary-Louise Van Schepdael (Joseph); and his brother Jean-Pierre Dejonckheere (Linda); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Valentine (Nuytten) Dejonckheere; his mother and father-in-law, and two sisters-in-law. Carl was born in Geluveld, Belgium, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 17, landing at Lacolle, QC, on Christmas Day of 1947. He first farmed in Starbuck and then settled in East Selkirk, MB, where he farmed for many more years. After retiring from farming, Carl moved to Winnipeg where he owned and managed rental property until his death. Carl enjoyed entertaining and travelling with family and friends. He travelled to many places including Belgium, the United States and within Canada. He had a love of nature and animals and enjoyed driving through the countryside. Carl was diagnosed with cancer in August of 2006 and fought courageously until the end. The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba, especially Dr. Maksymiuk, nurse Jennifer and the nurses and homecare workers from palliative care, as well as family and friends who have lent their unending support. Prayer Vigil will be held at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive in Fort Garry, on Monday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held the following day, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church, with Fr. Carl Tarnopolski officiating. Viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m. Private inurnment of Carl's cremated remains will take place in the Green Acres Columbarium at a later date.
