SERGE KRENZ Tragically and unexpectedly, it is with great sorrow that on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, Serge George Daniel Krenz was taken away from us. Serge was predeceased by his grandmother Anna Krenz and by grandmother Ewdochia and grandfather Daniel Humeniuk. Serge will be dearly missed and forever remembered by his mother Joyce, father Victor and his only brother Daniel. He will also be missed by his cousins, Terry and Greg Krenz and Aunt Agnes. Born in Winnipeg on April 28, 1979, Serge received his initial schooling in the Charleswood area at Royal, Laidlaw and Shaftsbury-Tuxedo schools. Serge was extremely intelligent and hardworking, striving to do his best at all times. At the University of Manitoba, he obtained a B.Sc. (major) in Psychology/Environmental Science in 2004 as well as a B.A. in Psychology/Criminology in 2006. He kept pursuing his education, and had applied to the Faculty of Social Work. Serge loved challenges and studied piano for seven years as well as saxophone for six. Throughout his years at Laidlaw and Shaftsbury he played in both school band and jazz band. He and his brother kept fit by doing Martial Arts and weight training. He financed his education by working for five years as a Customer Service Technical Support Agent for ATT/Comcast, diagnosing problems and providing solutions. For the last three years he worked as an instructor/ supervisor for the City of Winnipeg at Pan Am Pool and at Sargent Park Recreation Complex. At Sargent Park he was involved with the Youth in Crises Initiative Project in liaison with the Aquatic Staff and the Winnipeg Police Department Conflict Management. At the same time he volunteered with the Winnipeg Children's Access Agency where he supervised and monitored visitations of family members who had been victims of domestic violence. He also loved volunteering at the UMSU freshman orientation session for a number of years. His love for travel took him across the world to such locations as Europe and southeast Asia. He joined his brother in 2001 in Germany, Morocco and in 2002 and toured the Far East: Thailand and gained a further insight into our Global Community. Serge's exceptional intelligence and motivation enabled him to achieve two degrees and with it came the hopes and dreams for a bright and interesting future. Sensitive, open and caring this enabled him to easily reach out to others. With his humour and joy for life he lightened many moments. He always acted generously, gave freely without a sense of expecting returns. There was an underlying sense of unconditional love that he projected. It was a joy to see him looking after his pets in such a gentle manner. With loving care he nursed his first dog Hamlet through a long illness. We are grateful to have had him with us for 27 years. Next month we would have celebrated with him his 28th birthday. The complexity and unexpectedness of life leaves us shrouded in such sorrow for what might have been. We shape our dreams and hopes but in the end must be grateful for what we had all the rest is silence. A memorial service to honour Serge's life will be held on Saturday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. at Church Of The Rock, 1397 Buffalo Place. In lieu of flowers donations in Serge's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Children's Access Agency Inc., 170 Scott St. Winnipeg, MB R3L 0L3.
