JOHN SHIPLEY It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of John Douglas Shipley at the age of 52 on Friday, March 23, 2007. John is survived by wife Gayle (Zawatsky) and daughter Morgan. Also surviving John is his father Jack (Sheila) of Ayr, ON and parents-in-law, Carl and Dorothy Zawatsky. He was predeceased by his mother Thelma. John was born September 9, 1954 in Hamilton. As a child, he lived in Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver but always said he grew up in Toronto. John attended West Humber Collegiate, University of Toronto and Humber College. He became a Credit Manager and achieved his F.C.I. designation eventually ending up with Eecol Electric. We wish to sincerely thank the management and staff of Eecol Electric for all the compassion and support over the many years that John has been sick. John was an avid gardener, sports memorabilia collector, practical jokester and the ultimate fan of the Maple Leafs. John took great pride in all of Morgan's accomplishments and loved to travel together as a family. His battle against cancer began in 1970 fighting Hodgkins Lymphoma, Melanoma and finally losing the battle against Sarcoma. Until recently John provided Peer Support Counselling to others fighting against the variety of cancers he had experienced. We would like to thank the staff of CancerCare Manitoba (Dr. Maksymiuk, Dr. Latosinsky, Jennifer and Mona) as well as the staff of 3E, Riverview Health Centre (Dr. Kim Veldhuis, Dr. Pilkey, Dr. Keenan, Barbara, Dana, Ashley, Anne and Carol). Special thanks are extended to the IHMS and Rivergrove families who helped in numerous ways. According to John's wishes, cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 27 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. with Very Rev. Ray Lukie C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or Immaculate Heart of Mary School Building Fund. Eternally Remembered.
