CLAIRE BALLANTYNE (nee BERRIAULT) Following a courageous battle with cancer, Claire was able to find peace on March 23, 2007 at the age of 71. Left to cherish her memory are husband Desmond; daughter Lisanne (Lloyd); aunts, Arlette and Jeanne; niece Roxanne and nephew Claude; and a large community of friends and relatives whose lives have been touched by Claire. Claire was born in Winnipeg in 1935 and moved often with her family, first to Sudbury and finally to Montreal in the 1950s. There she enjoyed a thriving corporate administrative career, often speaking fondly of her time at Canadair/Bombardier. Marrying in 1964, Claire moved back to Winnipeg with Des and Lisanne in 1972. After working a number of years with the University of Manitoba in the research sector, Claire focused her energies on her community. She was active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles and enjoyed her work with the Ladies Auxiliary and the Retired Eagles Activity Club. Claire was a gentle and caring person, receiving her joy in life from helping others. She was happiest around family and friends including dear friends, Vivian, Lorna (Gypsy), Candice and cousin Vivian. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the excellent staff at the Riverview Palliative Care and to Claire's many friends who supported her with cards, phone calls and visits. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home followed by a gathering of friends and family at the St. Norbert Eagles Hall, 3459 Pembina Hwy. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society in celebration of Claire's renowned love of dogs.
