WILLIAM ARTHUR RICHARD WHEELER 1929 - 2007 Bill passed away on Saturday morning, March 24, 2007, at the Health Science Centre after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. He is survived by Joan, his wife of 53 years, son Andrew and wife Marie, daughter Dina and husband Brad, and grandchildren, Victoria, Jeremy, David and Genevieve. He is also survived by his sister Jackie and her husband Gordon Walker of Calgary, their children, Murray and Jonni and their families, also by his beloved cat Simba. Bill grew up in Winnipeg's west end, attending Greenway, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre schools. He was an active member of the DMCI Alumnae and really enjoyed the monthly luncheons. His school sports were football, basketball and baseball. He continued his love of sports by coaching hockey and baseball. Baseball was a lifetime passion and he was regarded as a baseball guru by all those who knew him. The year 1969 saw the creation of William Wheeler Agencies. Bill was extremely well respected and liked by all, and many business acquaintances became lifelong friends. Anglo-Canadian Mercantile Western Limited was established in 1978 with his then partner Norman Duncan and Roy Hodgson. His son Andy joined the Agency in 1982 and it continues to prosper today with Andy and his partner Keith East. A devoted family man, he was always very supportive of Joan in all of her volunteer and business accomplishments. Through his encouragement his son-in-law Brad successfully established his own company Brad's Window Cleaning in 1990. He followed all of his grandchildren's interests with wholehearted enthusiasm and pride. Being True Blue, he was an avid Winnipeg Blue Bomber supporter, a season ticket holder for over 35 years and a past Board Member. Bill loved the game of golf, he was an active Niakwa Country Club member and enjoyed being a part of the Thursday Thrashers. He served on the Board of Directors for several years and became an Emeritus Member. He worshipped the sun and after many holidays in various warm locations he settled on Ixtapa, Mexico as his favourite destination. The family would like to thank doctors, nurses and staff on GH4/HSC for their care and concern for Bill and our family over the past two months. Our family invites you to join with them in a celebration of Bill's life to be held at the Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Friday, March 30, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers we request that donations be made in Bill's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6.
