GORDON S. KAMEDA November 24, 1945 - March 24, 2007 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Gordon S. Kameda on March 24, 2007, at Kenora, Ontario. Gord's many friends and family can take comfort in the knowledge that he was happily indulged in his true passion, enjoying a nice day of fishing on the Lake of the Woods when he left us. Over the last 15 years, Gord spent most summer weekends towing his boat to fishing tournaments throughout Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, collecting trophies and friendships along the way. Prior to his stint as a professional fisherman, Gord devoted much of his time to the youth of Dryden, Ontario, as a coach in the Dryden Minor Hockey Association. Gord put together many successful teams in the 1970s and 1980s and more importantly, could count many of these former players as lifelong friends. In his youth Gord was known as a good athlete and team player in baseball, hockey, football and somewhat of a pool shark. Gord left Dryden High School at the age of 16, to attend a welding course in Lindsay Ontario. He went on to become a licensed mechanic, entrepreneur and very popular salesman for Dingwall Ford in Dryden and Woodlake Marine in Kenora. Gordon Shigeru Kameda Gord was born on November 24, 1945, son of Harry and Ayako Nancy Kameda, in Kaslo, BC. His family was moved to Oak Bluff, Manitoba, before Christmas the following year. A few months later they moved to Oxdrift, Ontario, and finally to Dryden, Ontario, just before Gord reached the age of two. Gord is survived by his two sons, Kevin L. Kameda and Faron B. Kameda; his mother Nancy Ayako Kameda; his sister Diane H. Kameda; and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Harry in July 1976 and brother Victor in November 1992. Services to commemorate Gord's life will be held on Friday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. in the First United Church, Dryden, ON, with Pastor Greg McKee officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Should friends desire donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation may be made through the Stevens Funeral Homes Moffat Chapel, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be emailed to sympathycard@shaw.ca with subject line Kameda.
