MARGERY EDITH ALCOCK (nee LEES) 1909 2007 It is with sadness that the family of Margery Edith Alcock announces her passing on March 27, 2007, at the Lions Manor, Winnipeg, MB, where she has lived since December 2001. She is the last surviving member of the William Lees family of Mather, MB. William and Sarah Lees (nee Hamson) came to Canada in 1904 from Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. Margery Edith Alcock was born September 11, 1909 in Mather, MB. Margery is survived by three daughters, Marlene Wiess (Len), Carole Alcock (Jack Mitchell), Ruth Halldorsson (Brian); six grandchildren, Jim Wiess (Lorna), Barry Wiess (Sydney), David Wiess (Janet), Heather Palmer (Mitch), Lisa Magalas (Scott), Robert Halldorsson; sister-in-law Eva Lees and numerous nieces and nephews. Margery was predeceased by her husband Harry Alcock (1977); her father William Lees (1953); her mother Sarah Jane Lees (1949); three brothers, Hamson, Alfred and Roy, and two sisters, Irene Redpath and Hazel Campbell. In 1929 she moved to Selkirk, MB, and commenced her training as a psychiatric nurse at the Selkirk Mental Hospital, graduating in June 1932. In September 1932 she married Harry Alcock. From 1932 to 1977 Dad and Mum were very involved in the Selkirk Community, Rebekahs, Oddfellows, square dancing, etc., and raising their family. From 1952 to 1974 she returned to work at the Selkirk Mental Hospital as a psychiatric nurse in the O.T. Dept., a job that she loved. Mum was always a caregiver. She was an excellent knitter, crocheter, seamstress and loved to bake and prepare meals for family and friends. Whatever job she was tackling, no matter how big or small, she gave it 100%. In her active retirement years she was a member of the Harmonicats Band where she played her mouth organ till she was nearly 90 years old. Music was a very big part of her life and at nearly 90 years, herself quite enjoyed entertaining the elderly at the different nursing homes. On behalf of Mum we would like to thank the Lions Manor PCC 4th floor staff for the respectful and excellent loving care they provided. A service to commemorate our mother's life will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB, with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1M4, or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
