JOHN DE VRIES It is with a feeling of great loss that the family announces the passing of John De Vries. John leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Laural; his children, Dianne, Doreen (Dave), Garth (Cecily), Grace (Dave); five grandchildren, John Jr., Kari, Richard, Daniel and Matthew. He also leaves to mourn his brothers: Leonard (Erma), Herman (Karen), Gerald (Dorothy), Bryon (Diane), and sisters, Margaret (Bill), Helen (Albert), Mary (Charles). John (Johann) was the first born son of the late Gerhard and Geeske De Vries of Ochre River, MB. He was also predeceased by sister Tena and twin sisters, Etta and Annie. John was a faithful, loving husband and a caring and helpful father and grandfather. In his early years John worked as a cream grader and tester for Ste. Rose Creamery. After moving to Winnipeg, he drove for Reimer Express Lines for 32 years. He enjoyed his work and could often be heard singing and yodelling in the terminal or yard. John loved the Lord, and faithfully served him for many years. He loved to sing and enjoyed singing in the choir the most. He also worked with Brigade and Stockade, and other hands-on work ministries at the church. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m. at Westwood Community Church, 401 Westwood Drive. According to John's wishes cremation has taken place and his remains will be placed in a family memorial garden in Gimli. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Special Olympics Manitoba, Inc. 200 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4M2.
