VIRGINIA ANNE BIRD 1932 - 2007 Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma passed away on Wednesday morning, March 28, 2007, with her family at her side after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure at the Selkirk General Hospital. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Louise and Elliott Ratte; sister Florence; brothers, Norman and Joe; daughter Irma in 2002; and the love of her life, her husband Charles in 1996. She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Wayne (Kathy), Wanda (Bob), Jack (Naomi), Merle (Ian), Dean and Karen of Selkirk, Ray (Kim) of East Selkirk, Vernon, Lyla and Bonnie (Jurgen) of Winnipeg, Larry (Karen) of Portage la Prairie, Ronald (Shannon), Clayton (Belinda) of Edmonton, AB, Lisa of Bozeman, MT, Darryl of Vancouver, BC, and Earl of Kitchener, ON; and numerous grandchildren and great-grand-children, nieces and nephews along with one special niece Sylvia. She also leaves to mourn her passing four sisters, Linda (Andrew), Ethel of Winnipeg, Lorraine of Cold Lake, AB, and Louise of Vancouver, BC; and brother Alex of Winnipeg, MB. Mom was born on January 15, 1932, in the Denver Hospital in St. Clements Municipality. She lived her life in East Selkirk and in Selkirk bringing up her family, who was her pride and joy. She had a quick wit and always had a joke for everyone when they came to visit. She was a fun person to be around. She was a very generous person, and having lived her life with such dignity and kindness, she inspired us to live better lives of our own. She has given us a lifetime of happy memories and will live on in our hearts forever. Mom fought very hard to stay with us, but God saw that she was getting weary and took her as one of his angels. The family would like to express words of thanks to the doctors and nurses at Selkirk General Hospital for all of their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB, with Pastor Lawrence Churchill officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Peter's Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Robert Hardwick, B.J. Thomas and Ryan, Duane, Cody and John Bird. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Heart Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.

  • I wish I would have gotten to know her. If she was like grandma Ethel I’m sure she was a loving and kind woman. RIP - Posted by: Darlene Chastellaine (Ethel of Winnipeg’s Great Granddaughter ) on: Nov 25, 2017
