With our deepest sadness, we are announcing that on March 27, 2007, John Lupachow Sr., aged 82 years, passed away at Riverview Centre. John was born January 31, 1925, in Ekaterinovka, in the province of Dohbas, in Eastern Ukraine. At the very young age of 17, in 1942, John was forcibly brought to Germany to work. From 1942 to 1945, John was placed in a slave labour camp in Hanover, Germany. There he met his future wife, Maria, and were wed in June 1946. In 1950, John, with his family, emigrated to Canada and settled in Transcona, where they resided until 2006. In March 2006, John and Mary moved to Concordia Village, where they resided until present. In 1950, John began his employment with CNR, where he worked for 36 years, retiring in 1986. John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Maria, son John Jr. (Karalee), daughter Katherine (Kevin), three grandchildren, Jason, Darryl, and Jennifer, as well as by his nieces. Prayers will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1500 Day Street, Transcona, to be followed by the Funeral Rites on Monday, April 2 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Father Bill Wasyliw officiating. Burial at the Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Cancer Society of Manitoba. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
