MIKE MARTYSHUK November 3, 1934 - March 29, 2007 Mike's determined spirit was evident until the end. Months after cancer claimed much of his body, Mike's will was rock solid until his suffering ended March 29, 2007. Mike is dearly missed by many; Anne, his beloved wife of 49 years; their three daughters, Debbie (Gary), Laurie (Don) and Michele (Chris), and grandchildren Tamara, Mike, Tyler, Kaleigh, Brody, Caitlyn and Tristan. He is survived by siblings George, Stella, Alec and John. He was predeceased by granddaughter Ashlyn, mother Rozy and father Bill. Born in the small community of Smoky Lake, Mike grew up in Alberta, where he eventually met Anne in Edmonton. Soon after they were married in 1957, the young couple followed work to the Toronto area, where daughter Debbie was born. It wasn't long before the family moved to Winnipeg where daughters Laurie and Michele were born. In 1960, Mike joined long-time friend Leigh Collyer in establishing Winnipeg Door Ltd. Ever the hard worker, Mike was employed as a subcontractor with Overhead Door in St. Boniface until his first battle with cancer three years ago. Perhaps because of his rural roots, Mike loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. His family is grateful to the angels of mercy - staff at Riverview Health Centre's 3E and the entire palliative care program. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A funeral service and interment will be held on Thursday, April 5 at 12:30 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home as well. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory can be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1932, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R2. Loving husband, father, grandpa, friend - we promise to be strong. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
