MARGARET TELFORD With great sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of our mother at Seven Oaks Hospital on March 27, 2007. Mom was predeceased by her husband George and daughter Frances. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Etta (Garry Minsky) and Colleen (Mark Monfette) and grandchildren, Simon and Eric; son-in-law Jack Kettler and grandchildren, George, Kirsten and Amanda; cousin Gertrude McDonald; in England brother Stanley, sister-in-law Marjorie and niece and nephews in Ireland and England. Mom was born in Ireland where she spent many years travelling the roads of Northern and Southern Ireland on her one speed bicycle to get to work and weekly Gaelic dances. Mom was even fortunate enough to have placed third in the Miss Ireland Beauty Contest . Mom met Dad in Ireland, where after a short courtship, they married and sailed to Canada. They settled on a farm outside the town of Shoal Lake, MB. Mom spent countless years helping Dad run the farm while simultaneously running the household and raising three children. Mom was a very kind and generous person where neighbours and friends knew upon visiting that there would always be a cup of tea, a homemade cookie, or a cigarette available! Mom loved to laugh and have a good time, her quick Irish wit could be matched by no one. She never took life too seriously and constantly said she had never heard the word stress until she moved here to Canada. After Dad died in 1991, Mom sold the farm and moved into the town of Shoal Lake where she spent numerous hours conversing with other women from widow's lane in their daily 2:00 coffee/chat sessions at the Shoal Lake Hotel. Years later, she moved into Winnipeg so that she could be closer to her children and grandchildren who she simply adored. Best known as Smokin' Granny to her grandchildren, she looked forward to attending their various school and church events. Mom was a great mother and a great human being who had a heart of gold. She will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mom's memory to the Canadian Institute of the Blind, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3. A ceremony celebrating Mom's life will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Shoal Lake United Church. Funeral arrangements by Rae's Funeral Home, Shoal Lake. She is just away in the land of light and peace where warmth and love abound and world difficulties cease. She is just away but her memory remains and the love she left within our hearts will help ease our pain...
