ANNA THORUNN (ANNE) JOHNSON Anne Johnson (nee) Anderson passed away peacefully after a long struggle with cancer on Friday, March 30, 2007, at the Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 87 years. Anne was predeceased by brothers, Harold and Skafti Anderson and sisters, Maria (Mary) Gibson and Olivia Garbutt. She is survived by her loving husband James, sons, Jim (Katie) Jody and Albert Zavala, Tyler and Riley of Phoenix who spent time with Amma recently and Ken (Diane) Ashleigh and Scott of Winnipeg and Edmonton. Anne will also be missed by her cousin Olivia Pelser and family and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Each and every one was special to her and she never forgot to recognize an important occasion in their lives. Anne grew up in the west end on Banning Street attending Principal Sparling, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre schools. She worked as a proof-reader for Henderson's City Directories and Intercollegiate Press. Anne married James in 1943 and moved to Troy Avenue in the north end in 1958. Although Anne's brother Harold died young, she was able to spend time with her brother Skafti and his family while at the cottage on 5th Avenue in Sandy Hook. In addition to occasional trips to California, Arizona and British Columbia with James to visit family, excursions with her sisters, Mary and Olivia were cherished. It was always very exciting when the ladies were planning a trip somewhere. Christmas Eve and the Icelandic Festival were also special times when Anne loved to entertain family and friends. The amount of time and effort put into her Christmas decorating was legendary and being an accomplished organist, she loved to play carols and have everyone sing along. Anne and James were soul mates for almost 64 years and enjoyed doing things together, such as family gatherings, TV Bingo, shopping trips to the U.S., listening to music, doing crosswords and jumbles or just watching their favourite programs on television. The family would like to thank CancerCare Manitoba and Riverview Health Centre for their efforts and compassion as well as niece Joan Mair for helping in so many ways. There is tremendous happiness in making others happy A Memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street), on Thursday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. Donations can be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
