MARY PARFANIUK (nee SORON) Peacefully on March 31, 2007, at the Selkirk and District General Hospital, Mary Parfaniuk, age 88 years, formerly of Rossdale, Manitoba. Mary was predeceased by her husband Steve in 1994; her parents William and Sophie Soron in 1967 and 1977; as well as her in-laws, John and Tekla Parfaniuk in 1971 and 1987. Mary was born and raised in Libau, Manitoba, and after her marriage to Steve in 1940 she resided and worked along with her husband on the family farm in the Rossdale area. After the passing of her husband in 1994 she moved to Knights of Columbus Centre in Selkirk and remained there until her passing. She leaves behind to mourn her passing daughter Judy Spewak (Alvin); grandchildren, Sandy Kostyniuk (Ed) and Rob Spewak (Penny); along with two very special great-grandchildren, Nadia Kostyniuk and Katya Spewak. Also left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-laws, Jean Hollinger of Selkirk, Millie Cook of Dryden, Ontario, and Sophie Soron of Hamilton, Ontario; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mary's memory will always be cherished by family and friends and all that knew her. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. at the Blessed Virgin Mary Protection Church, Rossdale, with the Very Reverend Richard S. Soo officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Her pallbearers will be John Hollinger, Robert Wall, Ron Pozernick, Mark Barda, Michael Cheslock and Karl Chernhowski. Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu, donations may be made to The Blessed Virgin Mary Protection Church, 530 Donald Road, Lockport, MB R1A 3K4, or to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, 730 Taylor Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3M 2K8.
