HELEN SNOW (nee SHEPPARD) March 21, 1919 - April 2, 2007 Helen Mae Snow (Sheppard) passed peacefully away at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2007. She was 88 years of age. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, she spent most of her youth in Detroit, Michigan, before moving as a teenager to Newfoundland, her family roots. There she attended university, and fulfilled her dream of becoming a schoolteacher. She later married and raised five children. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack; her daughter Barbara; and her only sister Gloria Morris of Tennessee. She leaves to mourn her many friends and remaining children, David of Winnipeg, Brenda Hudspeth (husband John) of Calgary, Donna Burt (husband Joe) of Winnipeg, Paul (wife June) of St. John's. Also leaving to mourn are grandchildren, Darren, Claudia, Kimberley, Shannon and John Charles; and great-granddaughter Chelsea. Helen was a devoted parent whose strong sense of family ensured her children remained close despite being scattered throughout the world at different times. Her intense love and devotion to her husband Jack set a high standard for her children's future relationships. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 5 at Charleswood United Church in Winnipeg, with Reverends Michael Wilson and Joanne Kury presiding, and a reception following. Helen's favourite charities were the War Amps of Canada, Manitoba Branch, One Maybrook Drive, Scarborough, Ontario, M1V 5K9, and the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7.
