Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN CUNNINGHAM It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Father and Poppa, John Cunningham, on Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 85 years. Remaining to forever cherish John's memory are his wife of 60 years of marriage, Edythe; children, Ron (Carolle), Susan (Jim), Wayne (Diane); grandchildren, Patricia (Jean-Francois), David, Allison (Ron), Rob, Erin (Doug), Stephen (Amber); great-grandchildren, Alexis, Nicolas, Philippe, Deirdre and Camille. He was predeceased by his mother Susan, father Andrew; sister Nancy Dendwick; and brother Edgar. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on July 13, 1921, at the age of three his family immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. John began working in the foundry business in 1937 and retired as the production manager at the ABEX foundry in Selkirk, Manitoba, in 1981. He enlisted in the Canadian Army, joining the 20th Field Company of Royal Canadian Engineers in 1939. John saw action in the Battle of Arnhem and was very proud of his company's efforts to help liberate Holland. John was very proud of his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very important to him and he took great pleasure in their accomplishments. He was a generous and caring man dedicating many hours to the Canadian Polish Athletic Club (CPAC) and always ready with a helping hand for friends and family. There are many who will remember his generosity and sense of humour with fondness. A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held on Thursday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. in the Atlantic - Garden City United Church, 725 Atlantic Avenue. The family would like to thank the health care staff on the fifth floor at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
