In Memory of MILDRED (JEAN) KOSTIUK (1929 - 2007) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Jean Kostiuk (nee Chambers-Haddon) on Saturday, March 31, 2007. Jean passed away quickly and peacefully after a long, valiant battle with cancer. Jean was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and was raised on a farm near Dodsland, Saskatchewan. She met her husband Dean in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, while she was working for SaskTel. They married and spent the next number of years raising a family and moving to many places in Canada, following Dean's work, in the Armed Forces. Jean and family also lived in France for three years and traveled extensively while living there. The last 37 years of her life were spent in Winnipeg, which she loved deeply. Jean was a devoted mother to her children and grandmother to her grandchildren. They were her consummate joy. She was an excellent homemaker, cook and seamstress. Gardening was a passion for her. She loved photography, travel and nature. She had a deep-seated love for the prairies. Pictures taken by her during her many trips throughout the prairies with her family always demonstrated a keen eye for the special things in nature that others would miss. She carefully chronicled all the photographs she took and has left us with a pictorial legacy of our lives and trips together as a family. Jean was a devoted member of Crestview United Church where she served in many capacities of the Board, including 15 years as Trustee. She had a passion for community outreach, both within the Church and outside of the Church, simply for the love of helping others. Jean leaves to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life her loving husband Dean; son Dan (wife Jill); daughter Lorna (husband Bruce); grandsons, Alexander, Spencer and Benjamin and granddaughter Lelia. Jean deeply touched many lives and she will be sadly missed by her family and her many, many friends. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all our family and friends that offered their prayers and support during Jean's illness. A memorial service will be held at Crestview United Church on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so wish, charitable donations may be made in Jean's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, for research into the treatment of Ovarian Cancer. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
