EUGENE GILBERT TURK Eugene was surrounded by his family when he passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on March 30, 2007, at the age of 89 years old. Eugene, commonly known by his family and friends as Geby, was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Thecla, his brother Walter and by his loving wife Frances. Geby will be deeply missed by his family: his two daughters, Darlene (George), and Shawnee (Mike); his three sons, Gary (Joan), Gene (Margaret) and Bill (Jane); and his brother John (Harriet); and all his grandchildren - Racquel, Daryla, Kelly, Talia, Tecla, Turk, Melina, Connor, Jonathan and Madison; and his great- grandchildren - Taras, Afton, Adam and Nathan. Geby was born June 15, 1917, and spent his entire life in Winnipeg. He did his education at Holy Ghost school from grade 1 - 12 and was a devoted Catholic all his life. Dad met the love of his life, Frances, and the two of them enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy and were stationed in Halifax. Dad loved to play sports and was a very gifted athlete. He played with the Navy hockey team in Halifax and played senior baseball at the age of 16 in Winnipeg. With his great passion for sport, he made sure that his kids got every opportunity to fulfill their dreams in their athletic adventures. He loved his kids and was a great father. His family meant everything to him and he worked hard to give his family all that he could. Dad was a hard worker and he spent his entire career working with the Canadian National Railway and retired after 44 years of service. Dad's other great passion was animals. He was never without a canine companion all his life. In fact, many a year, he would have two dogs. Dad was a generous, compassionate, hardworking family man that gave everything of himself to make others around him feel important, needed and wanted. It was a real pleasure to know him and especially to have him as a father. We will miss him greatly and we hope that he watches over us forever. Our hearts are always with you, Dad. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Grace hospital for their TLC and the attention that they gave to Eugene and his family during his stay at the hospital. We would also like to thank the Deer Lodge Centre where he had moved to in November and was treated with kindness and respect. In lieu of flowers, with our Dad's passion towards animals, anyone who wishes to make a contribution or donation can give to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 9Z9. In keeping with Eugene's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU CO.
