DONALD PETO Peacefully on April 4, 2007, Donald Peto passed away surrounded by his family. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beth (nee Crossin); his children, Brian (Janice), Barbara Cape (Grant Norman), Bruce (Darlene Karalash), Nancy, Lynda (Darrell Durling); and his grandchildren, Janet and Brent Cape, Laura and Scott Durling, and Carly and Brittany Peto. Don was born in Winnipeg on May 9, 1927. He grew up on Evanson Street and went to school at Laura Secord and Gordon Bell. Don attended the University of Manitoba graduating with degrees in Agriculture and Education. Don spent over 30 years teaching in the Winnipeg School Division first as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Kelvin, Sisler, and Grant Park High Schools. He was most proud of his experience developing and teaching the landscape Gardening Program at R.B Russell School. He later went on to become Vice Principal of Andrew Mynarski, R.B Russell and Sargent Park Schools. He retired from teaching in 1984. During his retirement Don worked part-time for a number of years for the Assiniboine Credit Union. With Beth, he enjoyed travelling and participating in numerous Elderhostel Programs throughout Europe, Canada, and the U.S. Don's love of learning and tackling new interests led him to learn oil painting with the Grenfell Art Group, woodcarving, building hobby gliders / sailboats and to resume his love of curling at the Wildwood Curling Club. Don spent many happy years enjoying the Lake of the Woods, first as a young adult working during the summers, and later at his own cottage on Mackies Island. Having time together at the lake , created many wonderful memories over the years for the entire family. A memorial service celebrating Don's life will be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent (parking also available at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, 561 Wellington Crescent).
