Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANKLIN GORDON GIBBONS On March 7, 2007, at the age of 85, Frank passed away at Victoria General Hospital. Frank is survived by his daughter Sharon Clark (Jim); his son Lorne (Linda); grandchildren, Michael, Trevor and Amanda. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Smith. He was predeceased by his wife Betty in 1988. Born November 13, 1921, Dad grew up in St. Vital where he graduated from Glenlawn High School in 1939. He proudly served in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War and spent time on a mine sweeper in the Atlantic. Dad and Mom were married during the war. They later settled in Winnipeg. His career with the Federal Government of Canada spanned three decades. Dad loved the cottage that he built in 1958 at Betula Lake. Times spent at the lake were his favourite times. He was happy pulling kids on water-skis, tossing horseshoes or just napping under an oak tree at the water's edge. Dad retired in his mid-50s which gave him and Mom some quality retirement time together. They enjoyed driving trips out to Victoria and spending several weeks in warmer climates before returning to summers at the lake. Dad was especially fond of his nephews Bruce and Gary and niece Jodi whom he nicknamed, Pancho, Snake and Ralph in true Frank style. Many were the occasions when he accused his son-in-law Little Jimmy of eating him out of house and home. No one was safe from his teasing and many enjoyed his sense of humour. George misses you, Dad. A special thank you to Barb and Kim Rach for always making Dad a part of their family and for being there when they were needed most. Thank you to the staff and residents of the The Waverley for the deep caring and supportive friendships given to Dad over the six years that he lived there. He always felt that it was a great place to be. At Dad's request cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, in Frank's memory.
