DOLORES (DEL) MURPHY 1911 - 2007 Dolores (Del) Murphy passed away peacefully at Oakview Place on April 4, 2007, at the age of 95. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Barb Quinn; grandson Monty (Kori); great-granddaughter Devin; granddaughter Cathie Webber (Todd) of Calgary, Alberta. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Monty in October 1978; and her brother William when she was a young child. Del was born in the Ukraine. Her dad came to Canada while she accompanied her mom to Cuba in 1920 where they resided until 1923, at which time they joined her dad in Canada. They resided in Elie for a few years before moving to Winnipeg. Although she didn't complete her formal years of school she could speak six languages. In later years she began working for her future father-in-law, Jack Murphy, in the family restaurant business which the Murphy family started in 1914. Here she met her husband Monty and they were married in 1936. Del and Monty operated Murphy's Fish Chips at various locations throughout Winnipeg until they retired in 1969 due to Monty's ill health. She lovingly cared for Monty until his death. Del loved flowers and plants. The outside of her house was surrounded with an array of colourful flowers. Del had some heath problems but managed to stay in her own home until 2004, with the help of homecare and neighbours, especially Ernie and Carol. At the age of 93, while attempting to shovel snow, she fell and broke her hip. After spending time at Grace and Deer Lodge Hospitals, she entered Oakview in July of 2004, where she received loving care. The family would like to sincerely thank the second floor staff, especially Helen, Maureen, Darlene, and Nancy, whom Del thought so much of. A mass will be celebrated at Blessed John Paul XXIII, 3390 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3K 0Z3, Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., presided by Msgr. Maurice Comeault. Reception to follow in the church auditorium. Interment to follow reception at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Although Del loved flowers she also loved animals and would appreciate any donations be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2L 1X3. Rest in peace, Mom.
