Date of Passing: Apr 04, 2007
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARRY ZABER Harry Zaber passed away on April 4, 2007, on his 76th birthday following a debilitating stroke. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elaine; brother Bill Zaber; sister Jean Flett; son Thomas (Sharon); daughters, Brenda Irish (Ken), Myrna Willenbucher (Arnie) and Valerie Squires (Edward); as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Annie Zaber (Wacyk). Harry was born April 4, 1931 in Komarno. He lived most of his life in the area, with a portion of his time in Thunder Bay and Winnipeg. Having varied interests, he worked in grocery stores, taught school and drove delivery trucks for various companies including Teulon Creamery, Canada Post and Alpine Messenger. Harry retired in 1986 to follow his true passions, which was restoring old cars, gardening and playing Hawaiian guitar in the band The Goldenaires . Harry was never at a loss for words. Whether it was ordering chicken poodle soup at the restaurant or asking for a 5 and zip at the lottery terminal, he had his own unique and endearing way about him. Although the stroke left him unable to speak verbally, he was able to communicate through the use of the alphabet to spell out his words, his quick wit and sense of humour stayed with him till the end. The family would like to thank the extraordinary nursing staff that tended to him at both Selkirk General and Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospitals, as well as a specific Thank You to nurses Melinda Tarko and Roxy Goudy for their dedication towards making him comfortable and going along with his humour, and to Karen Campbell for her expertise and compassion. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service to be held on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Teulon Hunter Memorial Hospital MacKenzie Funeral Home (Stonewall) in care of arrangements.
