GWENDOLYN MARTIN (nee CALDER) August 21, 1929 April 5, 2007 With her children by her side, Gwen Martin passed away peacefully in the Gimli Hospital at the age of 77 years. Gwen was born in Winnipeg and lived in Emerson as a young girl, the eldest of three children, sister to the late Mel Calder and late Muriel Wood. In 1948, Gwen wed Arthur Leco, and they began to raise a family, first in Edmonton, then in Winnipeg. Gwen was predeceased by Art in 1969, and raised four children as a single mother. Gwen remarried in 1987 to Robert (Bob) Martin also of Winnipeg, who passed away in 1999. Gwen is survived by her four children, Craig Leco, Wendy Mainland (Al), Sheree McCudden and Kevin Leco (Pamela), and five grandchildren, Brent Leco (Jenn), Tara and Sheena Mainland, and Andrew and Joel McCudden; brother-in-law Bruce Wood; sister-in-law Joyce Calder and numerous nieces and nephews. Gwen will also be remembered by her many, many long time friends. Gwen was an incredibly strong woman and an amazing role model for all who knew her. We miss you Mom. A memorial service will be held at Gimli New Horizons Recreation Centre, 10:00 a.m., Tuesday April 10, 2007 followed by a light lunch. A grateful thank you to Donna Manning and all the staff at the Gimli Community Health Center in Gimli. Interment to follow in Emerson at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gwen's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
