JOHN (JACK) ALVIN FINCH-FIELD John (Jack) Alvin Finch-Field, beloved father of Morag (Wolf) and David (Irene), ended his life's journey on April 4, 2007. He went home to Sarah, his treasured wife of 55 years, who predeceased him in 1998. Jack was also predeceased by son Jackie and daughter Linda. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by his children, grandchildren, Lara, Yury, Erin, Lindsay, Ian, Whitney, and Desiree; great-granddaughter Alayna; his surviving brother Edward (Marjorie); sisters, Lois MacDonald and Edith Green, little sis Catherine (Cyril) Vickers; and several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was born on August 21, 1921 and grew up in Grandview, MB, one of 11 children. When the Second World War broke out in 1939, he enlisted and served his country in active duty overseas until the end of the war. He began with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and later transferred to the VIII Recce. He returned to Canada in 1949 with his Scottish warbride, and settled in Winnipeg. Upon receiving his electronics electrician certificate, he worked for MacLeod's, where he eventually became the service manager for Western Canada. During his employment there he volunteered with Junior Achievers. Upon retiring in 1980, he and Sarah fulfilled their dream of moving to Vancouver Island and settled in Sooke. In Sooke, Jack was a member of the volunteer fire department, sat on the building committee of Knox Presbyterian Church, and volunteered for the Food Bank for a number of years, as well as working part time for Home Hardware, and working alongside Sarah to develop their amazing garden. During his 26 years in Sooke, he made many close and dear friends, to whom his family would like to express their sincere appreciation for their love and support in recent years. Jack was a remarkably talented and hardworking man, a wonderful and caring husband and father who took everything in stride. Dad, you are our hero! Viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 12:00 noon with funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Heritage Church on Glenncairn Lane. Interment will follow at Hatley Memorial Gardens in Colwood, BC. The family would like to thank the Community Services Home Care and Palliative Care in Victoria, BC and Canmore and Medicine Hat, AB for their valuable support and assistance. If friends so wish, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cancer organization of your choice. CARE FUNERAL SERVICES 250-391-9696
