STEINGRIMUR PALSSON September 1, 1928 - April 7, 2007 With sorrow in our hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Pabbi, Afi and Langafi, Steini Palsson, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, with his family by his side. Steini is survived by his children, Morene (Robert), Ryan (Sigrid), Brenda (Archie); 10 grandchildren, Melanie (Gary), Blair (Richelle), Neil (Karla), Erin (Kang), Christine, Kendra (Craig), Corey, Chad (Nikki), Lyndsay (Damon) and Dylan; and nine great-grandchildren, Averie, Macy, Derrien, Ryder, Chase, Connor, Toni, Darci and Briaer. Also mourning his loss are one sister Inga Danielson; and his in-laws, Sigmar (Hulda), Valdi (Sigga), Fjola (Stan), Roy (Pat), Marlene, Bernice (Fridjon), Gay and Larus; and numerous nieces and nephews. Steini was predeceased by his dear wife Inga; his daughter Cheryl; his parents, Thorgrimur and Gudrun; his parents-in-law Valdimar and Sigrun Johnson; his siblings, Helgi, Palmi, Haraldur, Sigrun, Soley and his in-laws, Roy, Baldur, Margret, Norman, Ruth and Richard. Steini was born at Grenhlid. His early years were spent there with his family, working on the farm with his brothers. After attending Island School, he worked at numerous jobs, logging, working at a sawmill, freighting, fishing and construction before settling in his chosen occupation, mixed farming. He married the love of his life, Inga on August 20, 1950, in Arborg and they lived at Grenhlid for two years before moving to Eyjolfsstadir in 1953. Steini worked very hard building up a large herd of beef cattle which he and Inga were quite proud of. He sowed grain mainly to feed his livestock which also included milking cows, chickens, pigs and horses. Pabbi took pride in his John Deere Green and was able to aquire some new haying equipment which enabled him to hay independently. He continued farming until a few years ago. Pabbi loved to travel. He and Mom travelled to Iceland twice, to Barbados, Mexico, Alaska, N.W.T. , B.C. , Churchill, and all over Manitoba. He was very interested in experiencing as much as he could. He met a lot of people along the way, with whom he kept in contact with. Pabbi was definitely a character to remember. He was intense, witty, interesting, knowledgeable, young at heart, generous, considerate, social and lovable. People were drawn to him as they found him very interesting. Pabbi loved to read, recite poetry, old-time dance, sing, laugh, share stories, recall local history, curl, play cards and watch TV. He enjoyed great food, going out for dinner, family visits, holiday get-togethers and amber rum. He was proud of his Icelandic heritage, speaking the language to those who could converse. Pabbi took an avid interest in all our lives. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play hockey, attending piano recitals, graduations, weddings and birthdays. His children and grandchildren brought him great joy, as he did to them. He had a special quirky nickname for each of his grandchildren, in which he found great joy in teasing them with. Pabbi continued his antics until recently when he became ill. He remained strong for Mom during her illness and after her passing, his health declined. He will be dearly missed and our memories of him will remain in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank the staff at the GA-4 unit at the HSC in Winnipeg for their care and concern during his stay there. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send donations in his memory to Logberg-Heimskringla or CancerCare Manitoba.
