ESTHER EDITH SCHALLA Peacefully, with her family by her side, Esther Edith Schalla passed away on April 8, 2007. Esther was predeceased by her husband Edward; her parents, William and Rosalie Wonnick; four brothers, Ferdinand, Ludwig, Erwin and Henry; two sisters, Alvina and Elsie; brother-in-law, August Recksiedler. She leaves to mourn her passing her sons, Brian (Rita) and Kevin (Sandra) and grandsons, Rick (Kat), Jay, Jeff, Shawn and Tyler; sisters, Erna and Hilda (Alfred); sister-in-law Mary Wonnick; as well as many nieces and nephews. Esther Edith Wonnick was born on May 31, 1938, in Rosenfeld, Manitoba. She came to Winnipeg at the age of 16 years to attend Success Community College and upon graduation worked at various typing positions. On September 9, 1961, she married Edward Schalla at First English Lutheran Church. As her boys grew older, she eventually joined Ed at Brookdale Plumbing Heating as his secretary/bookkeeper until their retirement in 1992. Mom and Dad enjoyed 13 years at their cottage in Petersfield, Manitoba where they entertained family and friends. Together they travelled to Texas, Hawaii, a cruise and, their most memorable trip, a visit through Israel. Mom was a former Sunday School teacher and church secretary/treasurer. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward (just north of Inkster), at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jan Pastucha officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be Rick Schalla, Jay Schalla, Jeff Schalla, Darrell Schalla, Ronald Dron, and Mike Matwiy. Fellowship will follow at the church after interment. Special thanks to the WFP Service, Seven Oaks Emergency and ICU. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Memorial Fund, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
