ELIZABETH (BETTY) GRUNDY (nee HILDEBRAND) On April 7, 2007, Betty succumbed to her last battle at Ste. Anne Hospital. She went peacefully to be with her heavenly Father surrounded by the love of family. Betty will be deeply missed and forever loved by her husband of 54 years, Art, and their four children, Glenn (Connie), Brent (Michelle), Jayne (Vic) and Lynda (John); 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Helen Hildebrand, her baby brother William, sister Francis and by her daughter-in-law Joanne Grundy. Betty was born on December 4, 1931, in the municipality of Rhineland, MB. She later grew up in Morden where she attended school and loved to play women's hardball for the Morden Bloomers, who became the provincial champs at that time. Betty worked at Tip Top Tailors as a teenager and picked up the sport of curling which she loved and played throughout her life. During this time she met Art Grundy who worked as a supervisor for Manitoba Power. In 1950, Art and Betty became engaged when Art had a permanent position in Ste. Anne, MB. They got married on July 16, 1952 and resided in Ste. Anne. It didn't take Betty too long to continue her love of curling in a mixed league in Ste. Anne. She had the first women's team to take on an all men's bonspiel and went to the finals. Betty went on to win many bonspiels and teach many along the way the sport of curling. She volunteered as a medical assistant helping the health nurses in the area with any medical attention needed. Betty joined the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 220 under Art in 1953. She held many positions including presidency for 16 years. Betty was very dedicated to the legion and what it stands for. Betty also enjoyed Art's hobby of harness horse racing, hockey and many other sports activities of their grandchildren. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East and Navin Rd., with viewing one hour prior to service time.
