MARIA FIFI Peacefully, on Saturday, April 7, 2007, Maria Fifi passed away, after 92 full years, at Victoria General Hospital. She is survived by her daughter Anita (Tony); and daughter-in-law Yvette; as well as grandchildren, Gordon (Vicki), Karen and Glen (Donna). She was blessed with and took much joy in her great-grandchildren, Justin, Katie, Brandon, Bethany and Jonathan. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews to cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her husband Maurice; and son Denis. Maria was born the youngest of 13 children on October 21, 1914, in Bruxelles, MB. She and Maurice began their married life farming and soon purchased the Holland Transfer in Holland, MB. In 1962 they moved to St. Adolphe and purchased the Magasin General where they enjoyed many years serving St. Adolphe and area as the local grocers with Maria being the postmistress. In 1978 they sold the store and retired from active business, allowing for travel and spending more time with friends and family, especially their grandchildren. A highlight for Maria was the many winters they spent in south Texas especially when family or friends would travel to visit them. Maria came from a family of musicians. The Bruxelles band was made up of many family members with her father serving as conductor of the band and composer for many of their pieces. This love of music stayed with Maria throughout her life. She took great joy in seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren develop this same appreciation for music as well. Mom and grandma will be remembered for her wit, tenacity, humour and undying love for her family. Even though her last years included the burden of Alzheimer's, she always maintained a positive and caring attitude. We will miss her and cherish her memory forever. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at the St. Adolphe PCH and all the medical personnel that went beyond the call of duty at Victoria General Hospital during her last week with us. A celebration of Maria's life will be held at the St. Adolphe Roman Catholic Parish on Friday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba in Maria's memory at 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220
