Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN BARBARA HACKETT (nee CHAPPEL) December 17, 1911 - April 11, 2007 The family of Jean Hackett sadly announces her peaceful passing on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at the Park Manor Personal Care Home at the age of 95 years. Remaining to forever cherish Jean's memory are her loving children, Ken (Kathy), Gail Gulka (Nestor), Jim (Julie); grandchildren, Sharon Kyrzyk (Terry), Dave, Ryan, Jennifer Deonanan (Vik), Brad Gulka, Jeffrey and Jaime; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Andrew Kyrzyk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Dmytro and Mary Chappel; husband Bill in 1977; infant twins, Marilyn and Gordon in 1943, sisters Ann, Della, Julia and Marion, and her brother Alex. Born in Ladywood, Manitoba, Jean was the youngest of six children. Her early years were spent on the farm, and after moving to Winnipeg, Jean worked at the Winnipeg Winter Club, St. Charles Country Club and Green's Camp. On September 2, 1939, she married our dad Bill Hackett, and devoted her life to raising a family with him. Jean was a loving wife and mother. An avid bridge player, she enjoyed playing cards, dancing, cooking and traveling. There were many family road trips to various parts of Canada and the United States, but the highlight was Mom and Dad's trip to England in 1974. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 710 Roanoke Street in Transcona, with Rev. Fr. Owen Steeves presiding. Interment will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at 9:30 a.m., in the Transcona Cemetery, 5014 Dugald Road. Pallbearers will be Messrs., Dave Hackett, Ryan Hackett, Brad Gulka, Daniel Kyrzyk, Nestor Gulka and Terry Kyrzyk. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Park Manor Personal Care Home for their compassionate care and support during her stay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to Park Manor Personal Care Home, 301 Redonda Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2C 1L7, or to a charity of one's choice.
