Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE MILDRED IRMA COWIE (nee MEYERS) With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Bernice Mildred Irma Cowie, 78 years of age, on Tuesday, April 10, 2007. Bernice NiceƩ was loved by all that knew her especially by her husband Robert Bob ; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen (Doug) Mintenko, Brenda (John) Chisholm and Lori (Gary) Smith; and her pride and joy grandchildren, Quinton and Jason Mintenko, Cari and Robert Smith and Cassandra Cassie Chisholm. She will also be fondly missed by her sister-in-law Muriel Inks, brother and sister-in-law Garth and Mary Cowie; special nephew Ronald Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Bernice was predeceased by her parents Emma and Lee Meyers, parents-in-law Bertha and Robert Cowie; sisters, Mary Mame, Clara and Bertha; and brothers, Bill, Ed, Leo, Lennie and Art. Bernice was born on April 21, 1928, in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, the youngest of nine children. On May 7, 1955, she married her soul mate Robert Cowie in Humboldt. In May they would have celebrated 52 years of marriage. Together they were blessed with three daughters Karen, Brenda and Lori, and we were very fortunate to be raised by such a lovely and caring mom. Our family moved to several communities throughout Manitoba with dad's banking career with CIBC. Mom would work endlessly to quickly make their house a home. Many lasting friendships were made in each community in which we lived. Bernice was an excellent seamstress and loved to plan and cook Sunday dinners to which her home was always open. She loved to watch her children and grandchildren in every endeavor they partook in and was ever so proud of their accomplishments. Bernice loved to travel. Her fondest trips being Texas, Florida, Vegas and her last trip with her family to celebrate their 50th Anniversary in Jamaica. Mom showed great courage and determination with her battle with Parkinson's especially in the last year and a half. Mom was always thinking of others before herself, which she did to the very end. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 16, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. in McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Rev. Julie Baker. Interment will take place in the Columbarium at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Bernice's memory to Parkinson Society Canada - Manitoba Region, 204 - 825 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Bernice by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. 857-4021. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
