Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHANNA (JOEY) REICHERT (LUPTAK) It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Johanna Reichert on April 10, 2007 at Lions Manor, with family at her side. Joey was born in Camp Morton, Manitoba on July 10, 1923 the second child of seven, born to Anton and Emilia Luptak. She moved to Winnipeg to enter Teachers College in 1954 and she taught in numerous one-room country schools in Manitoba while raising two children on her own. She retired from the Winnipeg School Division in 1983 after many years of teaching special needs children. Although a private person, Joey had many interests, knitting, sewing, reading, crocheting, painting and a special love of gardening. Her yard was always full of flowers and many were exotic flowers that she grew from seed. She loved to dance and by her dancing at Lions Manor functions she became known as the dancing lady . She was a gentle, spiritual person but had a strong will and a determined spirit which helped her through many adversities in her life. Joey was a special person and warmed the hearts of everyone who knew her. The gracious qualities that made her the person she was has left all of us with many beautiful memories. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ken Zdebiak (Pat) and Keith Zdebiak (Cheryl), grandchildren, Leslie (Jeff), Murray (Crystal), Troy (Rita), Todd (Heather), great-grandchildren, Krista, Katie, Nathan, Kieran, Kaden and Sage, brother August (Ramona), sisters, Magdalene, Catherine (Bernie) and Therese (Wilf) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The nieces and nephews will always remember the many ways that Auntie Joey made their times together so special. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Eugene and his wife Laura, sister Victoria and her husband Norman Dingwall and brother-in-law Keith Kerr Wilson. We would like to express our thankfulness to those special people who cared for Joey during her four years in Rimmer House at Lions Manor, they took such good care of her and helped Joey while she dealt with her blindness and Alzheimers. Thank you to the staff at Health Sciences Centre in emergency and GD5 for their care of Joey, and also to the caring staff at Lions Manor Personal Care Centre who made her last days as comfortable as they could. This will never be forgotten. Prayers will be said on Monday, April 16 in the Wheeler Funeral Chapel, 211 Regent Avenue West at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday, April 17 at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church on the corner of Munroe and Brazier at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery 3990 Portage Avenue.
