MARION BARLOW (MCKAGUE) The family of Marion Barlow sadly announces her peaceful passing at EastView Lodge, Neepawa, MB, in the early hours of April 11, 2007. She would have celebrated her 94th birthday on May 12. Marion was born on May 12, 1913, in Coulter, MB. She was the second of seven children born to John and Elizabeth McKague. Marion took most of her schooling in Rossburn, graduated high school and became employed at Manitoba Telephone. It was in Rossburn that she met her life partner, Colin. They were married on July 20, 1933, and continued to live in Rossburn until 1944 when they moved their young family to Winnipeg. In 1946 Colin purchased the Drug Store in Carberry. This would become their home for the next 55 years, until ill health forced them to move to EastView Lodge in Neepawa. Marion's priorities were her family and her home, but she was also active in the community and church. She was a member of both the Eastern Star and Rebecca Lodges as well as the Women's Hospital Auxiliary. She was also very involved in the United Church, participating in the Women's groups and teaching Sunday School. Marion was a very talented woman. She had an eye for colour and style and this showed in both her dress and her home. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed experimenting with new dishes. She loved to bake and shared her baking with many in the community. She was also a talented seamstress, making many of her own clothes as well as clothes for her children and grandchildren. Marion entered her sewing and baking in the Carberry Fair for many years, one year winning 47 prizes. She was an avid gardener and, along with Colin, worked hard to have a lovely yard. They were recipients of several provincial awards for their gardens. Marion had a strong will and determination which helped her in her long struggle with diabetes. It also helped her conquer her fear of the water as she took swimming lessons with the little children well into her senior years and became an excellent swimmer. She was very proud of this accomplishment. Marion was predeceased by her parents, her beloved Colin (2001), her brother Stan McKague and wife Dolly, brother Stewart, brother Milty and wife Esther, sister Edith Goodchild and husband Harold, sister Eva Mcleod and husband Jack, brother-in-law George McKerracher. She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Joan Barker (Philip), Sharon Cox (Cecil) and Margaret Arason (Greg); her grandchildren, Douglas Barker (Bei), Michael Barker (Corinne), Suzanne Collo (David); Leigh Cox (Al Werstiuk), Janice Cox (Kent Roach), Graham Cox (Toni); Colin Arason, Cade Arason (May); her six great-grandchildren, Erin and Carey Roach, Aidan and Sydney Cox, Kassandra Barker and Ava Arason; her sister Irene McKerracher and many nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of Marion's life will be held at the Carberry United Church, Carberry, Manitoba, on her birthday, May 12, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. A family interment will take place prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Canadian Diabetes Association, Manitoba Division, 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 0S6, or The New Personal Care Home in care of EastView Lodge, Box 1240, Neepawa, Manitoba, R0J 1H0. Arrangements entrusted to White's Funeral Home Neepawa-Carberry, Manitoba 476-2848
