JAMES WALLACE HALL, B.A., F.R.I. Peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, Jim Hall passed away after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born in Windsor, Ontario, on January 26, 1935. He was predeceased by his mother Anna Hall and father Walter Hall. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Carolan (nee Meadows); son Brian Wortley (Wendy); grandchildren, Blaire, Carson and Myles; sister-in-law Meri-Kaye Hamilton; niece Andrea (Windsor, Ontario); and cousins, Richard, Eddie and Tamara Gomer in Peterborough, Ontario; along with numerous friends and colleagues. Jim and Carolan had known each other since junior high school where Jim was class president and Carolan vice-president. Many years later their paths crossed, and they became husband and wife. Shortly after they were married they came west, and Manitoba became home for Jim, Carolan and Brian. In Winnipeg they spent many happy years in their home on Crestview Park Drive. Jim enjoyed the solitude on their deck overlooking Sturgeon Creek. He proudly followed his son Brian's hockey, volleyball, soccer and numerous sporting pursuits. He was a very attentive and compassionate husband, father and grandfather. Jim started his career as a customs broker in Windsor, Ontario. He was transferred in 1967 with International Customs Brokerage and he happily settled in Winnipeg. In 1970 he joined George H. Young where he remained for 20 years. He met and made numerous friends and colleagues during his career. Following his retirement as a customs broker, Jim received his Real Estate Brokers License and established a business with his wife Carolan. The business Carolan and Company Real Estate Services specialized in the sale of cottage and retirement properties. This necessitated giving up their Winnipeg residence and settling at Hillside Beach, Manitoba. Jim has had many diverse interests and talents. His gift as an artist was exemplary, and he was a polished writer and poet having written several short stories. Jim enjoyed keeping abreast of his beloved Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. He especially took delight in golfing with his family and many friends at Grand Pines Golf Course. Jim enjoyed the quiet country life, and he helped many residents become familiar with the nuances of converting a cottage to a year-round home. He sold many cottages in the beaches area and many of the purchasers became his friends. Jim believed in lifelong learning having gone back to university in the pursuit of knowledge. He was actively involved with real estate courses through the Manitoba Real Estate Association (MREA) where he served a two-year term as President. He was also a member of the Winnipeg Real Estate Board as well as a member of Independent Real Estate Brokers of Manitoba. Many friends came to spend time with Jim during his illness. Their visits and sentiments were much appreciated by Jim. Carolan and family would like to thank Leslie Scherle, Mike Geburt, Mel Ditove, Cheryl Davis, Tullio D'Ottavio, Pastor Ken Turnbull, Merrilee and Richard Green, Cheryl and John Diamond, Paulette and Ian Pratt, Reg Thomas, Debbie and Les Armstrong, Helen Trainor, Hans Kerr, Debbie and Derek, Bette and Kalvin Brown, Pat and Gerry Haslam. Special thanks to Drs. A. Maré, H. Lambrechts, G. Shroeder, M. West. and A. Leylek, and homecare workers Shannon, Shirley and Rita. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba (Melanoma). Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service was held on Friday, April 13, 2007. God Bless you, Dear Jim, for the brightness of your soul, your compassion, and especially for your love.
