Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN O. DAY 1925 - 2007 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Allan Oswald Day on April 12, 2007. Allan was predeceased by his father, Dr. Oswald J. Day, and his mother Florence M. Sterritt, his sisters, Barbara Mary Boult (Frank), Elizabeth Janet Day, and his twin brother John Sterritt (Jean). He leaves to mourn, his wife of 54 years, Helen Christine Day and their son Allan Christopher Day, their daughters, Pamela (Christopher) Hodgson, Barbara (Richard) Zilke and Katherine (Greg) Rogers and his grandchildren: Maxwell and Samuel Day, Brian, Jaci, and Patrick Hodgson, Angela, Laura and Alex Zilke and Kieran and Nicholas Rogers as well as his many nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond. Allan was born in Winnipeg on October 10, 1925 and resided most of his life in Winnipeg except during his service years for the Royal Canadian Navy, DEMS as an able bodied seaman QR3 from September 1943 until October 1945; WWII, The Big One . He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts in 1949. He spent his entire working life in the Investment Industry with Osler, Hammond and Nanton, Burn Brothers and Denton and Wood Gundy Inc., until his retirement in February 1996. He enjoyed his many years spent from youth until his death at his cottage on Mackies Island, Lake of the Woods, Ontario. He loved reading the classics, collecting antiques and stamps, fishing and duck hunting with his friends. Special thanks to Carol and Joe Graham, Cathy and Charlie McLeod, and Ian and Judy Boult for all their support and friendship through his illness. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held for interment at St. John's Cathedral Cemetery. There will be a public funeral service at Westminster United Church, 745 Westminster Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Monday, April 16, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations will be kindly accepted by the Canadian Diabetes Association. The family wishes to thank the excellent doctors, nurses and caregivers both from Grace Hospital and Riverview Health Centre on floor 3E.
