MARY KARLE Peacefully on April 11, 2007, Mary passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents William and Rascie, and brothers John and Ralph. Her memory will be forever cherished by her sisters-in-law, Margaret and Hilda (John); nieces Karyn (Brian) and Mary (Bill); nephews Paul (Susan), Ed (Kate), Glen and Stuart (Theresa); and grandnieces and grandnephews (Michelle [Robert], Lisa, Glen, Todd, Dylan, Zachary and Abagail). Mary was born and raised in Winnipeg. She worked for Zellers until her retirement in 1988. Mary's lifelong mission was to serve God by helping others. She was a lifelong member of St. Margaret's Anglican Church and was honored with the Order of Rupert's Land in 1999. Mary served at four Synods. For 35 years Mary organized a monthly service and coffee hour at the Union Gospel Mission. Her ministry included serving as Sunday School teacher, where she was fondly known as Miss Mary by all the children; housemother for several Inuit students in the 1970s; greeter for newcomers to St. Margaret's; leader of many prayer groups; service in Church Army; and ministry to Afghan refugees. The family wants to thank all visitors, readers, and singers for sharing their stories and love of Mary. She will always be remembered as our Urban Saint . In keeping with Mary's wishes, a private family service and interment will take place prior to a memorial service. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Margaret's Anglican Church with Rev. Preston Parsons, Rev. Linda Parsons, Rev. Jim Slater, and Rev. Dr. David Widdicombe officiating.
