YETTIE HELPER (ORENSTEIN) Peacefully on April 11, 2007, Yettie passed away at the Bethemmi Nursing Home in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Yettie was born the youngest of six children on September 14, 1915 to Abraham and Rachel Orenstein at Fort William, Ontario. She is survived by her son Michael (Bonnie), daughter Barbara (Rodney Slonim) and daughter Margo (Gregory Forrest) as well as grandchildren Jeffrey (Dina), Cara (Herb Cohn), Steven (Ali), Mark and Todd. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren. After 65 years of wonderful marriage Yettie lost the great love of her life Manuel (Mandy) on October 10, 2004. She was also predeceased by her father Abraham and mother Rachel as well as her five siblings Irving, Ida, Joseph, Mally and Freddie. Yettie was a delightfully warm person who maintained an open home, always welcoming friends and strangers of all cultures, religions and backgrounds. Family was paramount in Yettie's life. Every birthday or important event was remembered and acknowledged by Yettie. Family meant education. Her dreams and ambitions were fulfilled by seeing all of her children and grandchildren graduate with University Degrees. The last of her generation Yettie assumed the role of matriarch for all her nieces and nephews in her extended family. She became Aunt Yettie to the next generation as well. Yettie volunteered with McKellar Hospital Auxiliary, served as President of Thunder Bay Hadassah Chapter, supported Shaarey Shomayim Synagogue and campaigned for numerous Health Societies. Funeral services for Mrs. Helper were held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Shaarey Shomayim Synagogue in Thunder Bay, Ontario The family would like to extend our deep appreciation to the entire staff of Bethemmi, with a special thanks to Fatima and Patricia Lagadouno, Jean Mandzik, Michelle Fenton and Shannon Tinsley for their personal care.
