PHILLIP THOMAS NEWSHAM September 23, 1945 April 14, 2007 After a courageous battle with cancer and with his family by his side, Phillip passed away peacefully on April 14, 2007. Phillip was born in Winnipeg and raised in Bissett, Manitoba. Later moving with his family to Lac du Bonnet, where his father Ernie owned and operated Ernie's Bakery until his passing in 1972. Phil took over the business and ran it until 1986. Phil was a caring and gentle man who put his family in the highest priority. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, curling, golfing and was an avid hockey fan. Phillip was predeceased by his father Ernie (1972), brother David (1991) and mother Mary (1992). He leaves to mourn, his loving and supporting wife Rita and his son Justin. He also leaves his daughters, Janice (Mel) and Darla (Ray) and his grandchildren, Mikayla, Maggie, Diedrick and Julie. Also Alma Yewchyn, his mother-in-law of whom he thought the world of, sister-in-law Susan Yewchyn (Selkirk), Alice (Ron) Papineau (Pine Falls), brothers-in-law, Frank, Steve (Carrie) and Ken Yewchyn all of Bissett. Jim Beauchamp-one extremely close and long-time friend, fishing buddy and supporter through good and bad times. A friend that Phil considered a brother. A friend that Phil held very close to his heart. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, Kevin, Stephen, Nicklos, Tami (Seth), Tanya, Hayley, Conley and Colton, his cousins Ed (Jane) and Ron (Lil) Griffith and their children, Aunts, Phyllis Griffith, Dorothy Johnson and Ivy Nicklos and Ron Yewchyn (Bissett) who was always there at anytime and who was a great source of strength and support. May the Lord hold you in His hands and give you the peace and comfort you deserve. I will forever hold your love and caring in my heart and know that one day we will be together again. You will always be our rock, our life and our love. There will never be a day that you will not be in my thoughts and in my heart. Love, your wife Rita and son Justin The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Dr. Greyling and the entire staff at Pinawa Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion given to Phillip. As well they would like to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba. A memorial service will be held at the Lac du Bonnet Legion Hall on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Giroux presiding. Flowers gratefully declined.
