WILLIAM LUCOE With family by his side, William (Bill) Lucoe passed away on Friday, April 13, 2007, at the age of 82 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Irene, sons, Raymond, Brian and Larry, sister Jean Driscoll, nephew Gary Driscoll and cousins, Marjory (Al) McIntosh, Zin Chorney and family, Larry and Marge Michalski, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Lena in 1925, his father Jacob in 1972, and by his brother John and sisters, Mary, Anne, Jessie, Elsie and Helen. Bill was raised in Sapton, MB. By the Turko family, where some of his most cherished childhood memories were playing baseball and hockey with his cousins. In 1943, at the age of 19, Bill enlisted in the army and served overseas with the South Saskatchewan Regiment and the Royal Canadian Artillery. Upon his discharge, Bill attended the University of Manitoba where his studies earned him a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree in 1950. He later embarked on a 35 year career in the Federal Public Service until his retirement. In July 25, 1953 Bill married Irene at St. Johns Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. After living in Winnipeg for six years, they moved to Stony Mountain where they raised three sons. The ten years there were the happiest we spent as a family, developing many close friendships and many, many wonderful memories. Bill was a member of the Independent Order of Forresters, which was a large part of Bill and Irene's social life. As well, Bill and Irene enjoyed the camaraderie of Legion #215, the Saturday night dances, barbecues and Polka Party 2006. There were many family camping trips and vacations which we hold dear to our hearts. Spending time at Falcon Lake and at the Happy Valley Campground in Alberta were the good ol days . After the family had grown up, Bill and Irene would take trips on their own, and with friends, to such places as Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Greece, Egypt, Hawaii, Western and Eastern Canada and the U.S.A. In keeping with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 27 at the Henderson Hwy. Branch No. 215, Royal Canadian Legion, 3600 DeVries, East St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Lung Association of Manitoba, 629 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. neil bardal inc. 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
